Pileated Flycatcher

Pileated Flycatcher (Xenotriccus mexicanus)

This little guy is very secretive and hard to find and although most populations migrate in winter to the Balsas drainage in central Mexico, some of them remain in several places around the Oaxaca valley. In April and May they are fairly easy to find. The Monte Alban area and the foothills of the northern mountains near Oaxaca are major nesting grounds for this species.
